During our family trip to Switzerland in July, we had planned to spend most of our time surrounded by nature—majestic Swiss Alps, sparkling lakes, and breathtaking landscapes. But in between all that natural beauty, we decided to dedicate one day to experience something different: Bern , the capital of Switzerland and a UNESCO World Heritage city. Getting to Bern We drove from Grindelwald to Bern, enjoying the scenic roads along the way. For those who prefer public transport, Bern is extremely well-connected by trains, making it an easy day trip from many parts of Switzerland. Exploring Bern’s Old Town With just a single day in the city, we focused on Bern’s Old Town —a beautifully preserved medieval area recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The cobblestone streets, medieval arcades, and charming corridors were full of life during the day.
