Exploring Nice, France: A Perfect Summer Getaway on the French Riviera 🇫🇷☀️


When I visited Nice, France in July, I quickly realized why it’s considered the crown jewel of the French Riviera. Staying in an Airbnb right across from the Promenade des Anglais, I had breathtaking views of the sparkling Mediterranean from the moment I woke up until the sun dipped below the horizon.

Every morning and evening, I enjoyed peaceful strolls along the Promenade — the sea breeze, lively atmosphere, and endless coastline made it one of my favorite parts of the trip.

Day Trips from Nice: Exploring the Riviera

During my 3‑day stay, I also ventured out on some unforgettable day trips:

  • Èze Village 🌿
    A fairytale hilltop village offering panoramic Mediterranean views. Its narrow cobbled streets and the Exotic Garden made it one of the most magical places I visited. (See my full post on Èze Village for details.)

  • Monaco 🏰
    Just a short ride from Nice, Monaco is the 2nd smallest country in the world (2.02 km², after Vatican City at 0.49 km²). With its glamorous harbor, luxury yachts, and famous Monte Carlo Casino, it’s a must‑see. (Check out my Monaco travel guide for more.)

  • Castle Hill (Colline du Château) 🌊
    One highlight was riding the Petit Train Touristique. This fun road train leaves every 20–30 minutes, winding through Old Town before climbing to the park at the top. Though the original fortress was destroyed in 1706 by order of King Louis XIV, today the hilltop is a beautiful park offering panoramic views of Nice, the Bay of Angels, and the coastline.

⚠️ I chose to skip Saint‑Paul‑de‑Vence, a stunning medieval art village, since I had already prioritized Èze Village for its sea views.

Highlights Within Nice

  • Vieux Nice (Old Town)
    Walking through the colorful, cobbled streets of Old Town was like stepping back in time. The daily market was especially refreshing, filled with fresh flowers, local produce, Provençal specialties, and the scents of Mediterranean herbs.

  • Hotel Negresco 🏨
    No trip to Nice is complete without seeing the world‑famous Hotel Negresco. With its iconic pink dome and Belle Époque architecture, it’s one of Nice’s most recognizable landmarks. Since opening in 1913, it has welcomed royalty, artists, and celebrities from around the world.

1️⃣ Use Public Transportation – Trams and buses are efficient and affordable; Taxis and Ubers are also reliable.
2️⃣ Prepare for Summer Heat – July can be hot and humid, so always carry water and sunscreen.
3️⃣ Accessibility Awareness – Most of Nice is accessible, but hilltop villages like Èze are not wheelchair‑friendly.
4️⃣ Try Local Foods – Sample Niçoise classics such as socca, salade niçoise, and fresh seafood.
5️⃣ Know the Beaches – Nice’s beaches are pebbly, not sandy, but still perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

Final Thoughts

My trip to Nice was the perfect balance of seaside relaxation, cultural discovery, and day‑trip adventures. From strolling the Promenade des Anglais to riding the Petit Train up to Castle Hill, every moment felt magical. Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning to the French Riviera, Nice will captivate you with its beauty, history, and vibrant energy.
